The Federation of International Journalist, America (FIJA) Urges Unity for Rescue and Relief Efforts After Nepal Floods and Landslides

Washington, D.C., August 26, 2026

The Federation of International Journalist, America (FIJA) has expressed deep sorrow over the massive human and physical losses caused by devastating floods and landslides in Nepal, particularly those originating in the Rasuwa region, and has called on all sectors to unite in rescue, relief, medical treatment, rehabilitation, and disaster-management efforts.

In a press release issued from Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, FIJA America paid heartfelt tribute to those who lost their lives in the disaster and extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families. The organization also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and the safe rescue of all those who remain missing or out of contact.

Stating that Nepal is currently facing a grave national disaster, FIJA urged the government, opposition parties, all political forces, organizations, civil society, media, business communities, and Nepalis at home and abroad to rise above political differences and work together to support the victims.

“This is not a time for dirty politics, blame games, or attempts to exploit the disaster for political gain,” the statement said. FIJA stressed that the immediate priorities must be saving lives, locating missing people, treating the injured, safely managing displaced families, and ensuring that relief reaches genuine victims without delay.

FIJA also praised the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal Army, health workers, local authorities, rescue personnel, and volunteers who have been working under extremely difficult conditions. It appealed to political parties, organizations, and members of the public to coordinate closely with security agencies and extend full support to ongoing rescue operations.

The organization emphasized that relief distribution must be transparent, systematic, and impartial. It urged the government to ensure that assistance from both governmental and non-governmental sources reaches genuine victims in a timely manner. FIJA also called on political parties and their affiliated organizations to mobilize their cadres and volunteers constructively in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.

As the Government of Nepal continues to appeal for assistance, FIJA America called on Nepalis around the world, Nepali organizations, businesses, social activists, and friends of Nepal to contribute according to their capacity through official and reliable channels.

FIJA further urged media organizations and journalists to publish or broadcast information about deaths, missing persons, injuries, and damage only after verifying it through official sources. It also stressed the importance of avoiding rumors and respecting the dignity, privacy, and humanitarian sensitivity of victims and their families.

“This is the pain of all Nepal. Let us unite in rescue, relief, and support for the victims. Help Nepal. Pray for Nepal,” the statement said.

The press release was signed by FIJA America President Ram Prasad Khanal and General Secretary Tanka Dahal.
