Kathmandu, Nepal | October 2026
Former King Gyanendra Shah has extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to Nepalis living at home and abroad on the occasion of Bada Dashain 2083, emphasizing the importance of national unity, social harmony, good governance, and collective efforts toward Nepal’s peace, stability, and prosperity.
In his Dashain message, the former monarch described the festival as an essential part of Nepal’s cultural heritage, religious faith, and centuries-old traditions. He stressed that preserving and promoting these values is a shared responsibility of all Nepalis, regardless of their political beliefs or backgrounds.
Expressing concern over the country’s prevailing political, economic, and social conditions, Shah observed that Nepal has experienced numerous political transformations and challenges throughout its history. However, he suggested that these changes have not adequately fulfilled the expectations and aspirations of ordinary citizens.
He emphasized that political transformation should be accompanied by meaningful improvements in people’s living standards, economic opportunities, national stability, and overall prosperity.
The former king also highlighted the importance of safeguarding Nepal’s national identity, sovereignty, independence, and social harmony. Against the backdrop of growing public dissatisfaction, economic difficulties, unemployment, and political uncertainty, he stressed the need for responsible leadership, transparency, accountability, and people-oriented governance.
Shah maintained that regardless of the form of government, the people must remain at the center of national decision-making and public administration. He underscored that citizens’ welfare, security, dignity, and prosperity should always be the highest priorities of those entrusted with governing the country.
He further described Nepal’s religious tolerance, mutual trust, cultural diversity, and spirit of national unity as fundamental strengths of Nepali society. He called for cooperation, mutual understanding, and collective responsibility among different sectors of society to protect the nation’s broader interests.
On the auspicious occasion of Dashain, a festival symbolizing the triumph of truth and righteousness over evil and injustice, the former monarch expressed hope that the celebration would inspire Nepalis to uphold justice, harmony, compassion, and national solidarity.
He concluded by wishing all Nepalis good health, happiness, peace, prosperity, and a brighter future.
Beyond traditional festival greetings, Shah’s message reflected broader concerns about Nepal’s current political direction, economic challenges, and social conditions. His remarks placed particular emphasis on national reconciliation, accountable leadership, effective governance, and the need to prioritize the interests and aspirations of the Nepali people.
The former king’s Dashain message ultimately conveyed a central appeal: national unity, responsible governance, and public welfare must remain above political divisions if Nepal is to achieve lasting stability and prosperity.
